Kyoto, Japan

After a long night in Kagoshima we went to Kyoto, the cultural capital of Japan.

The Golden Pavillon

Nijo-jo, the shogun`s castle.

By surprise we`ve been to Kyoto at the time of Gion Matsuri, Kyoto`s biggest festival.

Inari shrine

View from Kyomizu-dera shrine,...

...the wooden shrine. Great.

Kyoto Gosho, entrance to the emperors park (and castle).

Kagoshima, Japan

On the 10th of July we took the train to go all the way down to Kagoshima to find my dear friend Miki who I met ten years ago in the US and have never seen again since...

Travelling is tiring

The Shinkansen, the Japanese high-speed train. It goes with an average of 206 km/h (stops included) - Good Morning Deutsche Bahn!

Changing trains and finding the right platform when you are not able to read is much guesswork

We made it!

A footbath at the foot of Sakura-Jima

At the observatory of the still active vulcano -
I found her!!!

Miki took us to the hot springs

Shabu-shabu for dinner - we ate for hours!

And sushi for lunch the next day

then some sightseeing at the house and garden of the Shimadzu family

and in the evening Miki organized a gathering of some friends and colleagues. We enjoyed ourselves a lot with all these lovely people and the good food. Cheers everybody!!!

The remains of the day we spent at a traditional local restaurant.

We`ll be back! Promised!
