Asuncion - Paraguay

Hi,
yesterday we moved on to Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay. After we left our hostel we took the public bus to the border where we had to leave the bus to do the immigration stuff in Brasil. After that we crossed the bridge of the Parana, the river which marks the border and had to do the same proceder in Paraguay again.
We didn´t meet robbers like the Lonely Planet wrote but the immigration staff at the Brasil border told us to keep an eye on our belongings.
After all it was a sweatering undertaking but the end was that we met the same bus with the friendly bus driver which brought us to the border again and at the bus terminal we immediately got a bus to Asuncion.

Paraguay in front of us...

....Brasil behind...

...and the Parana between.

"Independencia o muerte"

Here they signed the Declaration of Independence

Asunción was hot, not at all opened up for tourists,  the poverty was obvious and the heavy-armed policemen and soldiers were oppressive. Nevertheless we have some more nice impressions for you:

How the ... can we ever manage these cables?

A true German bakery!

They paid me 50 Guarani per day...

Our hotel from the inside. Our room was at the end of the floor on the left.

Me and Santa at 42 ºC, both marked by the heat

Not only us suffering...

It`s Christmas - surreal at these temperatures!

The Southamerican plastic-madness!

Let`s get out of here!
