South Africa, Coffee Bay

Everybody we were talking to in Cape Town was advertising against going to the "Wild Coast" because they considered it as extremely dangerous. We took it as one of the sad leftovers from the Apartheid and went anyway. And it started to be more and more the Africa we were looking for...

Our little hut in Coffee Bay

One day we visited the local Xhosa village. It was interesting to see how these people live, the only thing we didn´t like was that men and women had to sit separately. The men had chairs to sit on on one side of the room and the women who did all the work had to sit on the ground with the chicken.

Our guide showed us some holes in the ground where the women and children hid when the tribe was attacked by another one.

The place got its name after  a ship which was loaded whith sacks with coffee beans grounded here in 1893.
