From Uyuni we had a 7 hour ride through the Bolivian highlands to Potosi.
The Mint.
Potosi was founded in the mid 16th century by the Spanish after the Inkas found silver at Cerro Rico - the Rich Hill. It was the biggest silver appearence in the world.
More than 8 million slaves died inside this hill. The people say you can build 2 bridges from Potosi to Madrid, one made of silver, one made of dead bodies.
The day after we arrived we made a tour into the mines.
First we visited a refinery...
then we went underground.
Holes leading to nowhere.
Crawling through tiny holes...
...and climbing ladders.
Preparing an explosion.
After two hours underground we climbed back to the entrance.
Before we left the mine we visited Tio, the god of the mountain.
The miners pray to him and make sacrifices.

We were glad to be at daylight again...
...and thanked god for that ;)

Bei der Besichtigung haette ich Platzangst bekommen. Verrueckt dass ueberall Menschen fuer unseren Luxus sterben.
Davor hatte ich auch Angst, aber irgendwie konnte ich das ganz gut ausblenden. Dafuer hat das Erlebnis noch zwei, drei Tage nachgewirkt. Schlimm ist einfach der Gedanke, dass dort auch ganz viele Kinder arbeiten und der Berg durchloechert ist wie ein schweizer Kaese und keiner wirklich weiss, wie lange er dem Raubbau noch standhaelt. Die Spitze ist schon eingesackt.

Ach nein, ihr Armen! Wir waren nur bei meiner Schwester in CA und ich habe den Computer die Zeit ueber nicht angeruehrt. Musste sein! Dafuer sass ich gerade zwoelf Stunden an den Fotos und ihr habt wieder was zum Anschauen. Alles bestens also!
